CUD fields
thousands candidates to coming local, by-elections

Addis Ababa,
February 14, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Coalition for Unity and Democracy
(CUD) has fielded candidates in thousands to the coming local elections
and parliamentary by-elections. The party will compete for all seats in
Addis Ababa City’s Council and take part in the by-election of the
Federal parliament in the metropolis.
Party's
chairperson Ayele Chamiso told ENA on Thursday that the party has
finalized preparations to compete in the coming elections.
The party has
fielded candidates in Amhara, Oromia and South Ethiopia Peoples' State.
Senior officials of the party will undertake election campaign in the
near future in the areas, he said. The party will participate in all
by-elections in South Ethiopia Peoples’ State and in many areas of the
Amhara State.
The party
could not register candidates for local elections in the capital as it
has faced financial problem and candidates.
Ayele urged
the government to implement provision of financial subsidy, which has
already been permitted. The party has not faced serious problem so far
while registering its candidates, he added.
