NEBE training heads of woreda polling offices in Oromia State

Addis Ababa, March 12, 2008 (WIC) - A three-day training on electoral process has been launched today for heads of woreda polling offices in Oromia State.

Speaking at the opening of the training today, National Electoral Board Chairman Dr. Merga Bekana said the trainers will receive sufficient knowledge in election ethics, issuance of permits for local election observers, polling, tallying and results announcement. Dr. Merga Bekana

Orientation was given to legal professionals and experienced board office staff who give the training, he said, adding that the trainers will pass the knowledge to polling station executives.

Constructive evaluations will also be made on the weaknesses and strengths of the past elections by heads of the boards, he indicated.

Secretary-General of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia and Secretariat head Tesfaye Mengesha said on his part the assigning of independent and neutral individuals in the states would enable the public to elect the candidates of their choice.
